Why A Dog Is Mans Best Friend And A Cat Is Not

Dogs and cats are like chalk and cheese but i'm not talking about physical appearance - my observations have been of their personalities, mentally and emotionally. People who don't have pets might put them under the same category; that of annoying, messy, hairy, smelly creatures and yes, they are correct to a certain extent. However, in my experience of having both cats and dogs as pets, they could not be more dissimilar in terms of their loyalty towards their owners.

To give an example, a farmer died in his field recently and his dog stayed by his side for a couple of days until he was found. The dog, who had spent every minute of every day with the farmer and who was normally calm, was extremely protective of this owners body and became vicious when anyone approached. The farmer also had a cat who was found at the back door of his house, meiowing because it was hungry. Think about it!

Cats are independent creatures who care about two things and two things only and that is their food and their comfort. Once a cat is fed and is healthy, all they care about is being rubbed, or chasing a ball of wool, or relaxing in a warm part of the house. The owner may as well not exist, unless they are providing the tummy rubs of course. Cats view owners as providers, meal tickets, suckers so to speak!

Dogs could not be more different however. Since dogs became domesticated all those years ago, they developed a certain trait which no other animal posesses to any similar extent and that is loyalty towards, and a duty to protect their owner. Loyalty in a dog manifests itself in many ways as follows:

They are happy to spend every minute of every day in their owners company, even if it means doing nothing.
They can become possessive in the home and be aggressive towards approaching strangers. They are just being protective of the owner and property. This is why dogs make great guard dogs (as well as pets), big or small and is also a factor where dog attacks are concerned.
They would literally fight to the death for an owner in danger, such is their level of loyalty.

Having said this though, one can only have a certain level of respect for the selfish cat and mere pity for the needy dog! Cats are funny animals since their arrogance and supreme vision of self-worth would be the envy of many a human being and a fascination for any psychologist. The dog personifies the dependent child, needing far more time and effort than the cat.

When a person is considering which pet to choose, it is the aforementioned personality traits which should be the deciding factor. Is it a pet which will just take and not give, but which will require little of your time or is it a pet who will require lots of attention but will give back the love and devotion in bucketfuls? The choice is yours!

Making Your New Carpet Last

When you are attempting to keep your carpet clean you have to make sure that you understand how important the preventative care is. When you clean as a reaction you will not be able to keep your carpet very cleaned.

First, you have to make sure that you are taking the time to understand how you are going to keep dirt off of your carpet. There are a lot of people that do not understand that this is the best way to keep their carpet clean.

You want to keep people's shoes off of your carpet when they come into your house. There is so much dirt that is collected on the bottom of people's shoes that you do not want their shoes trampling all over your carpet.

Putting bins in your entryway or putting up a sign is a great way to ensure that people are going to take their shoes off. When they take their shoes off you want to make sure that they have a place to put them.

You should also make sure that you are taking the time to be an example. If you want your children to take their shoes off when they come into the house you have to make sure that you are taking your shoes off when you come into the house.

After you teach your children to take their shoes off and you inform others they should take their shoes off you will also have to concentrate on your animals. There are a lot of people that get a lot of dirt on their paws.

You want to make sure that if there is dirt on their paws that you know how you are going to take the dirt off. While you are taking the time to get the dirt off of their paws you should be gentle and you do not want to be upset towards the dog.

Then, you have to make sure that you are taking the time to vacuum your floors on a consistent basis. No matter what you are going to be getting dirt on your carpet and dust is going to settle on your carpet as well.

When you are not vacuuming this dirt and this debris will start to settle into your carpet. You have to make sure that you are vacuuming consistently so that you can actually lift this dirt out of your carpet.

If something should spill on your carpet you want to make sure that you are taking the time to clean it right away. There are a lot of people that do not understand that they should clean up as soon as they see something on the ground.

When the spill is dry you should vacuum it up right away. Vacuum it over a few times so that you are able to get the entire spill out before it starts to settle deeper into your carpet and get packed into the floor.

When the spill is wet you want to make sure that you go through a different procedure. You have to make sure that you soak up all of the liquid to ensure that the ground is dry before you start to vacuum it at all.

As you are soaking up the liquid you want to make sure that you take the time to put clean rags onto the ground. You want to be sure that you are not twisting the rag into the carpet but rather you are allowing it to soak up the liquid.

When the liquid is being soaked up you will have a better ability to get everything out of the carpet. The drier that you make the carpet the easier it will be to be sure that you are not leaving a permanent stain.

Finally, you want to make sure that you are getting your carpet professionally cleaned on a consistent basis. There are too many people that forget this step and do not understand that they should be having their carpet steam cleaned.

No matter how clean you try to keep your carpet there will be particles that settle deep into your carpet. As you are taking the time to schedule your carpet and have it professionally cleaned your carpet will benefit greatly.

You can get a lot of years out of your carpet if you learn how to treat it properly. Care for your carpet well and you will be happy with the results.

Pet Insurance: Is It Right For You?

Many of us manage our risks by getting insurance, whether it is medical, life, or auto insurance. Risk management should be an essential part of everyone’s financial planning and having pet insurance should be a part of that list. If an unexpected illness or accident comes your pet’s way, having pet insurance coverage for them would help decrease that expensive vet bill.

Pet insurance is a health insurance policy for your pet. Whether your companion is furry and four legged, or slithery and reptilian, there are many types of pet insurance policies out there. However, the most common, covered by pet insurance are cats and dogs. Many pet owners hope that they will not need pet insurance coverage for their pets, but the unexpected does happen. When dealing with pets, more so than not, medical care is needed suddenly and costs can soar into the thousands of dollars. Being prepared with pet insurance coverage would substantially decrease the medical costs for you.

Pet insurance popularity has rapidly increased in the past few years, resulting in less pets being euthanized. When not having to struggle with the decision of saving your pet due of finances, more pets are able to come home and recover from often simple, yet extremely expensive medical procedures. Having pet insurance in these cases would be a savior, especially if you are unable to pay that sum of money for your beloved pet.
Enrolling your pet with pet insurance is beneficial whether they are old or young. If you have a younger pet, it would be useful to enroll them with pet insurance because they may be more accident prone. Younger pets tend to be more mischievous and having pet insurance would ease those financial worries when a trip to the vet is required.

Older pets are more susceptible to medical problems, and getting pet insurance before they occur would be ideal. If you know for a fact that your pet will require many vet visits, pet insurance may be right for you. Some pet insurance companies even cover older pets that may develop common conditions such as hip dysplasia, diabetes, or even cancer. Long term treatments for these are very expensive and having a pet insurance policy that may cover a large portion of those costs would be extremely helpful. Having pet insurance would save you the financial burden and keep your pet healthier and properly treated.

It is important to research pet insurance companies, pet insurance policies, and understand what will be covered in case your pet was ever in need of medical attention. Pet insurance companies differ in their policies and have different limitations on many conditions. Some pet insurance companies simply do not cover certain conditions. It is extremely important for pet owners to look for pet insurance policies that would satisfy theirs and their pet’s medical needs. Understanding and comparing pet insurance policies is crucial prior to purchasing a pet insurance policy for your pet. Doing so will help avoid an unpleasant surprise later down the road if your claims are ever denied.

Having pet insurance is very similar to buying extended warranty on your car; however, you would have a better idea when you would actually need to use your pet insurance, such as when your pet grew older. Pet insurance may not be for everyone, but if you have an older pet with congenital or hereditary problems, or mischievous young one, pet insurance may be beneficial to have.
